Nellix has developed a novel device designed to address and expand the indication for the less invasive treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAAs) and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms (TAAs). Enabling the treatment of all aneurysms with a low profile delivery system and innovative endograft, the Nellix device has the potential to double the market size for Endovascular Aneurysms Repair (EVAR), which exceeded $800M in 2008 with a 16% CAGR (Med Tech Insight). Presently, EVAR is applicable in 30-50% of all aneurysm repair procedures, with the rest being done by open surgery. Positive growth factors for this marketplace include strong reimbursement, improved patient screening (The Medicare SAAVE act of 2006), and increased consumer awareness surrounding safer, less invasive alternatives to surgery, including the expanded indication for no-neck highly angulated aneurysms. It is forecasted that the AAA market could exceed $1.7B by 2012.

More than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with aortic aneurysms per annum, but less than 80,000 are treated due to the risk of open surgical procedures and the shortcomings of present devices with respect to patient anatomies. A significant number of the diagnosed patients fall outside the indications for use of current EVAR devices. The Nellix sac-securing endograft technology will address all patient anatomies and eliminate device leakage and migration problems. The Nellix platform has the potential to double the number of aneurysms that can be treated with minimally invasive EVAR and raise the standard for endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
